Benachi House Wedding – Allison & Donovan
Allison and Donovan were introduced to each other at a friend’s night out. They didn’t know each other beforehand, but after they were introduced, it was love at first sight.
Once they’d been together for a while, Donovan surprised Allison with a special Christmas date… first they went to Union Station in Denver to see the big tree display and have a fancy cocktail. Then they went to one of their most favorite cozy restaurants. Afterwards, they returned home where Donovan said he had an early Christmas gift for her. It was a custom made ornament for the tree that said “I love you to the mountains and back…will you marry me?” Donovan then got down on one knee and proposed!
When asked about the inspiration for their wedding, Allison and Donovan said that they “love love love New Orleans! It’s one of our favorite cities in the world and was the destination of our first trip together. We definitely wanted to include some of that NOLA tradition in our wedding, so searched far and wide for traditional cajun food and of course had to do the 2nd line parade! We chose a beautiful venue with lots of greenery and a gorgeous old mansion. And we opted for the less traditional pie spread instead of a wedding cake as we both love pie!”
On the day of the wedding, Donovan and the groomsmen wore navy blue suits for a less formal look. Allison chose a fitted, all lace dress with a train with a somewhat vintage style. The bridesmaids all wore different dresses in the color palette of peach and navy. Some were prints, some solid and they all had different fabrics. They came together nicely for a less traditional look.
They wanted their big day to be fun and memorable for outheirr guests while also very special to the two of them. Their wrote their own vows and their officiant was a close friend of theirs from Colorado. The 2nd line parade was a must as they wanted to show their guests traditional New Orleans culture… “it was a huge hit and a very unique part of the wedding as all of our guests had not experienced something like this before.”
As a personal touch, their officiant had them each tell her a favourite/funny story about the other person prior to the wedding. She then told the stories to the wedding guests during their ceremony which was really fun and unique.
One of Allison and Donovan’s favourite parts of their wedding day was watching from the window of the house while all of their guests arrived. Everyone was from out of town and flew in for the event. It meant so much to them to have everyone there. Their other favorite part was the food! The caterer made chargrilled oysters and fried catfish on site. “They were a huge hit! It was fun to have food that was memorable and not your traditional wedding food.”
