Bohemian Ballroom Wedding – Abby & Steven
Abby and Steven were married in a simple indoor ceremony in September with an elegant ballroom reception that was transformed with beautiful bohemian floral touches.
They met when Abby got a job at a local liquor store that Steven’s mother owned and so he trained her on her first day of work. She had a boyfriend at the time they first met him so she didn’t really look at him like that. Then Abby and her roommate needed a place to live and where Steven lived he rented out his basement, so they went and looked at it and decided to rent it. Abby had broken up with her boyfriend after about a year of working there and that is when Steven asked her on a date. She was hesitant at first since he was her boss’s son and her landlord! But she said yes and they instantly clicked and fell in love quickly and easily.
When it came to their engagement, Steven likes to go above and beyond! They had a trip planned for that March to go to Hawaii with his family. They had talked about engagement before this trip and looked at rings but Abby never thought that she would get engaged in Hawaii because she had always said if anyone’s family is there when they got engaged she wanted both families to be, and since they were going with his family it just never crossed her mind. Abby’s friend then said, “what if Steven has your family flying into Hawaii too and he’s going to propose.” She laughed at the idea and thought that wasn’t exactly likely because first of all her mother was going to Belize the week before their trip and her sister and husband were going to St. Martin.
They landed in Hawaii after a 2-hour delay and going to the wrong car rental place, then they finally made it to their hotel and Steven and Abby were walking the beach on their way to go meet the rest of the family and he then and there asked Abby to marry him! She says that was blown away and sobbing with tears of happiness! He then said to her that he had one more surprise for you… that’s then when she found her mother standing outside the restaurant and her sister and brother in law on their way! “It felt so surreal I was overwhelmed with love and happiness! Needless to say, the trip to Saint Martin was a cover-up. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect engagement.”
Abby says that when it came to wedding planning, she was going for a more fall wedding colour theme. “I love eucalyptus and lots of greenery so I wanted the room to explode with greenery and flowers. I am more of a simple kind of person so I wanted a more laid back kind of theme with the bohemian feel. I love the mauve and dusty rose color but wanted more neutral bridesmaids dresses so I used the mauve and dusty rose for the accent colors. I incorporated them into the flowers, bridesmaids lipstick colors and in wedding reception decor.”
“I had flowers, flowers, and more flowers, ha! I love flowers and greenery, so that was really the main decor. I had the reception area set up with a kings table doing down the centre of the reception area with circle tables on each side. The king’s table had lanterns and candles with LED lights wrapped around the outside of the candles, with a long rope of greenery weaving around the lanterns down the whole length of the table. The circle tables had two different centrepieces. One had a beautiful lower boutique in a candlestick holder and mini vases scattered around it. The second one had a tall glass vase with greenery coming out of it, and greenery scattered around on the table. The head table had just a simple greenery strung along the edge of it. The cupcake table had hanging greenery rope with floral incorporated into it. The cupcake tables were staggered in height and shape to add more dimension to the table. My husband and I have a big sweet tooth so we had a candy table set up. We used some sequence table clothes and love signs to add more color elegance to the table. We had a decorator who helped set up the backdrop and the ceremony and head table of the reception, chair covers, and the beautiful organza draping on the entrance door into the reception area. My husband and friend made the welcome sign. My friend’s father-in-law made the arch for the ceremony. My mom, sister, friend Liz, aunt, cousin and cousin in law, and myself woke up early to start decorating the reception venue ourselves.”
“I wanted a more simple/laid back look but still wanted to look elegant as well. I wanted the bridesmaids dresses to be a more neutral color so we went with a taupe like color– actual dress color was “rum pink” it was tan with a pink undertone which was perfect with the color theme. It was easy to add any of the accent colors to these dresses. It was like the travelling hood of the pants but in dress form, it fits all body types and skin colors. I gave the girls a mauve colored lipstick for a gift that they all wore and it fit the theme perfectly. My husband wanted to go with the classic black suits. They wore black suits and white button up shirts with mauve colored ties and he wore a black tie. I wanted to add the mauve accent color into their look rather than their ties matching the bridesmaids dresses, I liked the contrast. Now for my look…I knew I wanted something different, like a dress I had never seen before, and that is exactly what I got. My dress was filled with beading and lace and was very heavy which is something I thought I would NEVER get. The dress had cap sleeves and had a high neck and back. It was form fitting and the dresses underlining fabric had a spandex material so it was extremely comfy…which was a bonus!”
