Classic and Timeless Wedding – Karissa & Brian
Karissa and Brian met while attending Illinois State University and they were both in the Gamma Phi Circus program. Brian proposed on the “love bench” on the ISU campus on their 6th anniversary. This bench says “To those who fell in love at ISU” and is a staple on campus. They had wedding pictures taken there as well!
The inspiration behind their wedding day was them as a couple. They wanted to include as many aspects of all the things they love into their big day. This came through in their music selections at the ceremony (Harry Potter and Disney) and through table names of all of their favourite things. The religious/family tradition was having Karissa’s uncle marry them. Their colour palette was shades of blue, blush pink and silver.
The ceremony space was simple as it’s a gorgeous chapel in its own right. They decorated with beautiful altar arrangements and a welcome sign with one of their engagement pictures. Their reception decor was sparkle, sparkle, sparkle! They had lights under the table skirts of the head, gift, and memorial table and sparkle table runners on each guest table. They also had silver chargers, DIY memory notebooks, DIY table names, DIY sparkle table numbers, and floral centrepieces. The head table had a sparkle Mr. and Mrs. sign which was also DIY. The guest favours were custom m and m’s and sunglasses (shades for the shades). They also had a DIY photo booth that they borrowed from a family friend.
The flowers for Karissa and Brian’s wedding were gorgeous shades of pink, white and bright green. Karissa had a bridal bouquet along with bridesmaids bouquets, corsages, centrepieces, pew decorations, and altar arrangements. They played an integral part of the day and they are a centerpiece to all of the pictures. The flowers make the dresses POP!
Included in their day, Karissa and Brian chose aspects from their time in the circus while they were in college. This included a juggling entrance and group dances throughout the night that a large part of the guest list new by heart. One of Karissa’s favourite parts of the wedding was seeing all of her friend groups come together and have a great time – there was one point (being a circus couple) that Karissa had Brian standing on her shoulders in her dress!
Karissa choose her wedding look based off something she has always wanted since she was little. She always wanted to be in a big fun dress with LOTS of sparkle. “I also always dreamed of having a gorgeous long train (9 feet) which is what I got 🙂 I love that my dress was strapless but still had an open back look because of sheer material on the back. I also knew I wanted my hair in an updo as curl doesn’t hold well in my hair and my hair is long Brian liked to be fancy whenever he can so he wanted to go with the classic look (black tux, bow tie and shiny shoes).”
