Door county outdoor wedding – Hannah & Adam

Hannah and Adam met through mutual friends when they were in college. He lived close to the school she was at and we decided to have coffee. The day he proposed they were camping at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo WI and Hannah is a total nature and science nerd and they were sitting on the edge of a cliff looking over a large portion of the park looking at some cool rocks. She had turned around and he said: “Hey look at this awesome rock!” She turned around and he was on one knee!

Adam and Hannah’s Door county wedding was the perfect blend of natural and romantic. Set in the woods overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan, the ceremony was simple and intimate. It was important to Adam and Hannah to draw from nature when choosing their colours and florals, so they stuck to cream, sage green, sky blue and grey. As a couple, they love succulents so had to include those on their wedding day!

For the ceremony, they kept things very natural. They didn’t have too many decorations other than flowers, arch, and runner. They like to keep things simple! At the reception, they brought in all of the flowers included in the bouquets on all of the tables and included gold accents and a little bit of wood to keep with the natural theme. A week prior to the wedding the officiant (a long time friend of Hannah’s parents) asked the happy couple to write to him about what they love about each other so during the ceremony he read these messages as part of their vows.

They used white peonies, white and light pink roses, eucalyptus and dusty miller in the bouquets. They left the stems showing to add more of a natural look that they really loved. All of the centrepieces were smaller versions of the bridal bouquet and the greenery used on the arch for the ceremony really tied into the trees that surrounded them. Overall, the colours and the little details in the florals tied together the natural but romantic effect they wanted on their wedding day!

The catering for the reception was done by a friend of the groom’s parents who also stood up at their wedding. The musician for the ceremony and the reception was Greg McMonagle, a friend of the groom. “The music and the magical feeling we got at the ceremony were two of our favourite parts. It truly felt like we were in a fairytale.”

Dana says that when it came to their wedding style, “to be honest, I thought my dress would be a lot plainer and the dress I ended up loving had changed my mind about having a little sparkle and lace and really added a more whimsical aspect and to our natural romantic theme. I think having my dress be in ivory instead of a stark white was a lot more natural as well. As far as the groom, we always knew that we didn’t want the groom and groomsmen to be in black and grey went well with natural tones and gave more of a minimalist look. The sage green accents brought the whole concept together.”
