Elopement in San Sebastian – Alexis & Stephen
We have a soft spot for any weddings in Spain because we’re based in the south near Malaga, so seeing these images from an elopement in San Sebastian by Pedro Bellido was such a treat!
Spring and summer are ideal times for getting married in San Sebastian which is in the North of Spain. Alexis and Stephen are a lovely American couple from New York who decided that they’d like to have a destination wedding in Spain, and they picked a fantastic time of year to do it – the weather was on their side and because it’s not peak tourist season it was still fairly intimate.
The wedding party stayed at the Hotel María Cristina which is a fairly large luxury hotel right in the centre of the city and located conveniently close to the sea. Alexis got ready at the hotel along with her mother and bridesmaids – we really like all of the getting ready photos because it reminds us of going out with our friends, people sitting on the floor in the hallway and crowding around one mirror.
Once everybody was ready, the bridal party left the hotel together and were escorted by the best man to a nearby park where the groom was waiting. First looks are one of our favourite things so we love that the photographer managed to capture this moment!
After the first look, everybody headed to a tavern where they had a toast with Champagne before heading to the beach for their ceremony. Alexis and Stephen wanted a wedding on the beach so that they could say “I do” whilst feeling San Sebastian sand under foot.
As you can imagine with a wedding on a public beach, there were lots of unexpected guests watching over the couples happy moments – people in their beach wear and watching from the promenade.
The couple had some photos taken on the beach first and then walked around the San Sebastian port so that they could get more photos in the area and take advantage of the architecture.
This last photo brings a smile to our face because we really like that Stephen as a new husband is carrying Alexis’ shoes – sometimes girls just need that kind of silly support!
