Inn at Willow Grove Wedding in the Virginia Countryside – Sarah & James

Sarah and James met during their junior year of college at Miami of Ohio. In fact, they’re what you call “Miami Mergers” – Miami University alumni married to each other, accounting for over 14% of the university’s alumni base. This was an important detail that they tried to incorporate throughout their wedding weekend.

Both primarily raised in Northern Virginia, their paths crossed junior year when a mutual friend introduced them. They became great friends throughout their college career and ultimately both moved back to Washington, DC where they began dating a year later.

Sarah says that when it came to the proposal, she had absolutely no idea that it was coming; it was a complete surprise and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. Her father had convinced her that she had to take a boat safety course in order to take their family boat out on the water. Needless to say, she was less than thrilled to spend her free Sunday doing that. They drove down to the boat, ready for their safety course, where he surprised her and got down on one knee out on the boat. Their families surprised them and they all went out on the boat for the afternoon with champagne!

Sarah’s personal style is pretty classic, so they wanted to mirror that as much as possible in the wedding. She was raised Catholic, so that was always where the ceremony would be. Both Sarah and James were raised and still reside in the DC metro area, and they wanted a place just outside that felt like a little oasis away from the city, where guests could stay on property. As soon as they first visited the Inn at Willow Grove, they fell in love with its charm and elegance, and not to mention, the food was delicious!

Their wedding colours were slate blue, silver, blush, and moss green to compliment and highlight the environment of the elegant rolling hills in Orange, VA.

Similar to her style, Sarah wanted a dress that was timeless, where she could look back on pictures and still be in love with the dress. Although the dress was classic and timeless, it was not what she thought she would have worn. Sarah always envisioned herself in a strapless dress, but as soon as she put on my Sareh Nouri dress, she knew it was the one. “I’m not a very emotional person, but I shed a tear when looking at myself in the mirror! I actually got to meet Sareh Nouri at my first fitting, which was an amazing experience! The dress had an amazing and dramatic train – I felt like royalty.”

Each of Sarah’s family members got their “one thing” in the wedding planning process; her dad wanted an amazing band, her mom wanted to splurge on beautiful flowers, and James and herself wanted a premium bar for their rambunctious group of college friends.
