Pastel Love Story – Katie & Dennis

Dennis and Katie met at Dennis’ brother Darren’s wedding. Katie became friends with Darren’s fiancé (also named Katie) at work and got invited to her wedding reception. The rest is history! They live on a dairy farm out in the country. Katie is a sucker for a good sunset, and on August 13th 2017, Dennis took Katie out on a walk down the Sideroad to admire the sunset and got down on one knee.

Katie had envisioned a hotel/resort wedding because their families are from all over the place, so having accommodations right there was important to them. Also having the ceremony and reception in one place was ideal for guests. She always loved the look of light pastels and simplicity, that’s why she chose to use greenery, white and pastels for her florals. The muted pastels in white, light pink and dusty grey were used as the colour palette for the flowers in the bouquets and table centrepieces. Lots of beautiful greenery was used to drape the head table.

When asked about her wedding dress, Katie said that she never thought she would want a strapless gown for her wedding day until she started trying them on! “I fell in love with my Kenneth Winston gown because of the lace detail, and the low back with sheer detailing. The bridesmaids wore a frosted blue gown by dessy, fitting in with the light airy colour theme. The men wore dark grey suits to offset all the light colours in my palette.”

One of the most important parts of their planning was that they wanted all of their guests to have the best time. Having amazing food and drinks was very important and Hockley Valley definitely delivered. An amazing party atmosphere was also important so having a great DJ helped them to achieve that. They say that they’re also so happy to have had an amazing photographer and videographer to look back on their day for years to come.

“We loved having all of our family and friends together in one room, that was very special for us. The speeches of our family and friends were amazing, had everyone in tears. And just celebrating our love and being together all day, we had been together 6.5 years on our wedding day and it was amazing to finally celebrate!”

They didn’t have a wedding cake, it was one element that they chose to skip for the day. Katie is celiac and Dennis doesn’t like cake so no wedding cake. They do however both have a huge sweet tooth, so it only made sense for them to have a candy bar. The guests loved it and it was something they could take home and enjoy, or have a treat at the reception.

We’ve seen this a couple of times throughout the years and it’s always a detail which I absolutely love! Katie had one of the most special handmade items for her wedding day which was her purse, it was made out of fabric from her late grandmas wedding dress. “She had passed a few months before the wedding, so it was very special to have a piece of her with me on my wedding day.”
