The Barn at Oak Manor Wedding – Laurel & Alex

“I was in a sorority in college and we had a formal in a city that was 3 hours away. My date carpooled with my friend and her date and that’s when I met Alex. We were stuck in the car for almost 4 hours together, so he started flirting with me and I just ignored him because I wasn’t interested. But after spending the rest of the weekend with him, he asked me on a date and I decided to give him a shot and I am very glad I did.”

“We had been dating for over four years when Alex decided to propose. He was planning on proposing on our trip to Paris but I had figured out his plans. So a week before we left for Paris he changed his plan and reached out to my family to help. My brother had asked me to come to his house so that he and my sister-in-law could take me out for a birthday dinner. So I went to their house, got all desssed up and they “took me to dinner”. We went to Piedmont Park in Atlanta and when I got there Alex was standing there with a bouquet of flowers. He led me down this path to a tree where there were pictures of us hanging from a branch and he got down on one knee. As soon as I said “yes” mine and his family came from around the corner and surprised me. It was the perfect proposal.”

Their wedding venue was a gorgeous property with a barn at the centre, and as the reception was held in the barn, that lead to a rustic/vintage southern theme. The colour palette was lavender,  navy and grey. Navy was one of their college colours and lavender was Alex’s grandmothers favourite color so they chose that in her memory. The theme and colours worked together perfectly and complimented the venue perfectly.

Since the theme was rustic southern, Laurel really wanted to find a dress that complimented that look. Her dress was an ivory mermaid dress covered in lace, with an imitation sweetheart neckline and capped sleeves and a v-line back with buttons all the way down. They decided on the groomsmen attire before choosing the grooms. They wanted Alex to stand out so they chose a navy blue suit with a white shirt which stood out from the grey the groomsmen were wearing. He wore a navy blue suit, white shirt, brown shoes and belt, and a purple and white tie.

I did a bridal bouquet of white stock and roses with little hints of purple throughout. My bridesmaids bouquets were white stock that looked amazing against their navy blue dresses. I had baby’s breath lining the aisle and in the centerpieces at the reception. I also had some greenery adorning the cake. The flowers complimented the view I wanted for my wedding and photographed beautifully.

The wedding ceremony was held under a beautiful oak tree so they had the tree draped in a beautiful white linen. They also had the doors of the barn draped in linen. The tables had alternating centrepieces; some tables had boxes with baby’s breath and carnations and other tables had painted mason jars and the bridesmaid’s bouquets. Both centrepieces were DIY and there were painted signs alongside the stage at the ceremony that were also done by Laurel.

“I think the most anticipated moment was our first look. It was a very sweet intimate moment with just each other, our photographer and videographer. When we finally got to see each other it helped to calm our nerves and just helped us to enjoy a day that was all about us. It was a special moment that we will always remember.”

“My favorite part of our wedding is that we had my uncle officiate the ceremony. It added a personalized touch to the day and made our ceremony even more special. Family is very important to both of us so we found as many ways as possible to incorporate our families.”
