The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm Wedding – Jessica & Kevin

Jessica and Kevin met right after college after being introduced by a mutual friend. After talking for a while, they found out that they had a lot in common, and he called Jessica the next day to ask her out on a date. Thier first date was on the Fourth of July on the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philly. Sparks flew after that date and they became inseparable. Jessica says that fall, “I went through a lot of heartache after someone very close to me passed away. Kevin was there through it all and never left my side even when I was at my lowest. His love for me got me through and enabled us to grow very quickly as a couple. Six years later, after many great times and hard times, we have grown up together and we couldn’t imagine our life without each other. We are truly the best of friends.”

This lovely couple wanted their wedding to feel like it was theirs. They added many personalised touches to their wedding so that the moment you stepped into the day, it felt like Jess and Kevin’s wedding, no one else’s. They thought long and hard about what is truly them. “We both love to travel, we love animals especially our dog, Buddy and cat, Teddy, and both love antique items. For our love of travel we set up a section during cocktail hour where a guest could take a Polaroid selfie and write on it the name of their favorite travel destination. We thought it would be fun to put them in an album after the wedding and the next time we are trying to plan a trip, go through the Polaroids and be able to ask our guests all about their trip and if they have any recommendations! We included pictures of us traveling around the world as well. We also had our guests sign a vintage globe as our wedding guestbook.”

“Kevin and I are avid rescue animal lovers and wanted to include our “boys” in the wedding as much as possible. We had our nephew and ring bearer, Zachary, carry down the aisle at the Church a stuffed toy dog that looks identical to our dog, Buddy. Our signature drinks at the wedding were named after our boys as well: Buddy’s Blackberry Bramble and Theodore’s Strawberry Mojito. I hand chalked vintage style chalkboards and included fun pictures of Kevin and me with both Teddy and Buddy for our guests to enjoy at the bars. As a thank you to our guests, we provided custom cookies made to look like our boys, Buddy and Teddy, and I made thank you notes that were folded around the cookies. The notes included information about our favourite rescue shelters and let our guests know that we would be making a donation to those shelters in honour of them.”

“We both truly love everything old and enjoy antiquing together for our home and my business. I operate my own business — a unique and vintage rental company called Something Borrowed, Philly LLC. So as soon as we got engaged I started picking out which pieces in my inventory I wanted to use for our wedding! The vintage blue and white dishes that we used at the wedding were one of my first pieces of inventory that I fell in love with so that was the starting point for our wedding design. From there, we worked to match everything to the look and feel of those dishes. We wanted our guests to be able to take home something beautiful and antique so I ordered old bronze keys from Romania on Etsy to use with our escort tags for the wedding which we hung on a vintage door. We hope that our guests will be able to use them in a way that is meaningful to them in their home to remember our special day. I also wore antique earrings and carried an old handkerchief given to me by my Grammy when I was little.”

“We recently bought our first house which is located in the woods. About four months before the wedding, we found out that one of the largest trees on our property was diseased and it being so close to our home would need to come down. We were very upset to have to remove one of the oldest most beautiful trees on our property; however, we were able to come up with a creative way to honor it by incorporating the base of the tree into our wedding. We decided to create our cake table using part of the trunk as the base and I found an old vintage tabletop to place on top. Kevin did all the hard work for this project and used a chainsaw to cut down the trunk into smaller wedges since it was so large! Our amazing florist Fran from Valleygreen Flowers & Gifts in Springhouse, PA understood my vision completely and added moss and flowers to the trunk and the table top. It turned out even more beautiful than I could have imagined and our guests were so excited to hear about how it came to be!”

When it came to the inspiration behind their wedding theme, both Jessica and Kevin love shades of blue and yellows but couldn’t decide on one shade to stick to so they ended up with more of watercolour theme. This allowed them the freedom to use all their favourite shades of blues and yellows which really added different depths and interest within the wedding decor. The women in both families got really into the watercolour theme as well and decided to coordinate by all wearing different shades of blue which was really beautiful and fun!

Thier favourite memory from their wedding day was seeing all of the people that they love and who love them being all together surrounding them and their love for each other. “It was such a great feeling for Kevin and me to take a few minutes just to ourselves along the side of the dance floor and take it all in: seeing all our different groups of family and friends enjoying time together and to savor the fruits of all of the hard work we put into designing our wedding. It was unbelievable seeing my vision for the wedding celebration come to life that day and for having all that love and support was such an amazing feeling.”
