The National Hotel Wedding – Steffi & Michael

Steffi and Michael first met each other at an online chat room, this particular chat room pairs you up at random so Steffi says that she thinks it was quite amazing that they even met being on it at the same time at opposite sides of the world. After spending some time talking Michael wanted to meet up as Steffi was already coming to America for a holiday with a few friends. They decided to meet up at Disneyworld in Orlando, from here they decided to embark on their long-distance relationship. Flash forward to three years later, Steffi and Michael decided one morning to go to her favourite park and take pictures of one particular area that they hadn’t seen yet. Steffi said that she “was so absorbed with taking photos of the waterfall when Mike began to talk, once I turned around I saw him down on one knee asking the question I’ve been waiting my whole life to hear. We knew we would be having a destination wedding in the US and settled on Miami as we met in Florida for the first time and it would be the perfect location for us all to enjoy.”

As this happy couple were having a destination wedding it was going to be very intimate with family coming from interstate America as well as from Australia, because of this they were able to spend a lot of time thinking about adding personal details throughout their special day. Steffi wanted to achieve an ethereal look for their wedding day, they achieved this through the use of romantic lighting and light and neutral colours that complimented each other – their colour scheme was grey, with touches of silver, ivory and green. During the wedding ceremony, they had a unity candle which both of their mothers lit on behalf of the two families.

Because their wedding day took place on the weekend after Easter, Steffi and Michael were lucky enough to have all the florals provided by the Church! Their reception was decorated beautifully with florals and lighting surrounding the pool as well as classic bistro lighting above. Flowers played a big part throughout their wedding and were incorporated through table centrepieces, boutonnieres, bouquets and corsages. Steffi says that she wanted the flowers to add an elegant touch to the day and compliment their light colour scheme instead of adding a bold contrast. They achieved this through using a variety of white flowers with green vines and leaves, the bouquets were tied together by neutral ribbons that added to the flowy ethereal look.

Steffi got personalised cut-out names made instead of having written place cards, which her and her mother spent decorating on the days before the wedding. They personalised the wedding favour boxes to compliment the same look as the invitations and the m&m favours inside them were decorated specifically for their wedding day. Guest names were etched instead of written on cards as a unique way to seat them. Steffi says that her “favourite parts of the wedding day would be the father/daughter dance with my dad- we danced to a Celine Dion favourite which I have always wanted at my wedding since I was little, I bawled my eyes out it was such a special moment. The whole ambience of the night was so perfect, it felt like a family gathering where everyone enjoyed themselves, the music and lighting set such a gorgeous vibe and the weather was perfect!”

When it came to picking out a dress, Steffi “wanted to create a very feminine and ethereal look. I’ve always loved full lace dresses and once I tried this dress on I knew it was the one, my dress was mocha coloured with delicate ivory lace over the top and a beautiful train. I chose to have my hair done in loose waves with natural makeup and simple jewellery. Mike wanted to achieve a classic look that allowed him to stand out from the groomsmen, he wore a grey suit and Calvin Klein shoes, he also wore captain America cuff links as this is what his co-workers back in Australia call him.”
