Top of the Market Wedding – Megan & Davis
Davis is in the U.S. Air Force and he met Megan in Pensacola, Florida, when she was down visiting a mutual friend who was in the same training class as him. They did long distance for a while before Megan made the move from Dayton to Shreveport. Davis got his first station assignment in Shreveport, LA (where they both live now.) Megan went down to visit and he took her out to a local state park (Lake Bistineau) for a picnic. The location was beautiful with huge cypress trees and Spanish moss, but it had been raining all day. He was very persistent about still going so Megan knew something was up. They went on a walk down by the water and then he went down on one knee. At that time, a friend came out who was hiding to take pictures for them!
Megan and Davis know how to have fun. They enjoy a good beer, love a live dance floor, and can appreciate a pretty image. So, fun people surrounding them to have a drink with, dance with, and (probably more for Megan than Davis) have really pretty photos with was so important on their wedding day. That means that in our commute from the hotel to Top of the Market, we all hopped on a party bus to take us from the hotel to two fabulous photo locations before we landed at the venue. Later, they let me sneak them back outside for some really epic sunset photos, which are some of my favorites from the day.
Their wedding vision was pretty rustic chic but without the burlap and mason jars. Megan decided on the colour scheme of blush, sage, and rose gold for spring! She says that she made a last minute decision to put her girls in sage and she was so happy with the choice. “I got the convertible dresses from Birdy Grey and it was so neat to have the girls each get to have a little say in their own style. The men I wanted in tan jackets with blue Jeans and boots. They were all from Texas so I wanted to make sure I included some Texas country in with our wedding. It is such a classic look and goes great with almost everything.”
They made the majority of their centrepieces and they turned out amazing. The lanterns were so beautiful and jazzed up with some candles, spraypainted votives, and a little greenery. Anything where you are able to add your own personal touch or make something is super rewarding but also cost savvy for the bride on a budget!
They were lucky enough to have a family friend do their wedding flowers. She went above and beyond their expectations with them. Megan was pretty set on a solely white and green bouquet with light pinks mixed but the florist helped guide her into adding some colour and she’s am so glad she did. They turned out phenomenal and apparently got so many compliments.
Megan has had all kinds of treats from The Cakery in the past so she knew that she wanted to use them for their wedding cake. They chose to do a smaller cake with other treats to accompany it and no one seemed to mind! It all went so fast, but luckily they were still able to get a small piece of cake.
For their wedding favours they did the classic Koozie. Megan found a great shop on Etsy who did custom koozies and was able to incorporate Texas (Davis’s home state) and Ohio (Megan’s home state) on them. “They turned out so great!”
Davis’s family has a tradition of doing a wedding march during the wedding reception. This is an old German Catholic tradition and they chose his aunt and uncle to lead it. With only a handful of people knowing how to do it, they had almost everyone participating and caught on super quick. Megan says that she was pretty nervous having never done it before and hearing how people get flung around, but it was SO MUCH FUN and the guests loved it! “We are still talking about how much fun it was and his uncle was ready to do it again!”
When Megan and Davis were asked what they thought was the most important part of planning, they said their photographer! “She is an absolute dream and we are also lucky enough to call her a friend. Pictures are forever so That was top on our list.” The other most important thing to them was that they wanted everyone to have a good time. They made sure they had great music and food, and drinks flowing too.
