Unicorn wedding styled shoot
I had it in my head that I wanted to do a styled shoot with a unicorn wedding theme, not too childish, not too realistic, just the right touch of candyfloss colours, glitter, and enchantment. Unicorns are still massively popular so I put up a request for people to help me put together a unicorn wedding styled shoot on Facebook and honestly I was overwhelmed with the response and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of vendors to work with!!
Thank you so SO much to this fantastic group of amazingly talented vendors for making this unicorn wedding styled shoot come together as well as it did! I had a brilliant time on the day and you all made this inspiration shoot a dream. I’ll let these stunning images speak for themselves.
I started the plans for this unicorn wedding themed styled shoot at six months pregnant and was so thankful for Louise of Your Fabulous Wedding for helping so that I didn’t stress so much. She came gracefully into my life and said “let’s do this”, “I’ll do this”, “what do you think about…”, “how about getting … involved” – she didn’t take over and make me feel like it wasn’t still my idea. If you’ve never considered a wedding planner then you really should!
When Cristina Ilao Photography said she would like to get involved, my heart skipped a beat! I was laying in bed at the time and I prodded my husband in the back, made him roll over and swoon over her photography with me. His response was “you couldn’t have found a more perfect photographer!” and I think this shoot really shows how true that was! When we received the photographs after the shoot he could hardly believe his eyes – we adore all of these light and airy images.
Jane Taylor-Marlow of Maddison Rocks Floral Sculpture bounded into the Facebook comments with so much passion and enthusiasm for this unicorn wedding styled shoot that I just had to have her involved!! She provided a stunning flower wall, apothecary jars for on the dessert tables, and then she only bloomin’ went and told me that she could make a rig for the dessert table to have a swing for the cake! This woman is Passionate with a capital P!
If as a reader you know me personally, then you know I have a massive sweet tooth, so lots of sweet treats were a definite must for this unicorn wedding styled shoot! My husband actually took me to Paris for our second wedding anniversary and prepared a trip around the city to different macaroon shops so we could get one each from each shop and judge them. Lorien Storey of Storeybook Cakes was so personable and came up with loads of ideas such as the beautiful rock candy macaroons which you can see here – they were as delicious as they look!! I certainly left the shoot at the end of the day a dress size bigger than when I’d arrived!!
More of Lorien’s baked goodies can be seen on this recent Disney The Little Mermaid styled shoot.
Once all of the bigger elements were organised, I actually requested for Heidi Lawton of Extra Special Touch to be involved because I would love for more people to see her beautiful products! Heidi makes personalised handkerchiefs, embroidered napkins and luxury garters, and I feel that all of those things are underrated but can add such an extra special touch (see what I did there?!) to a wedding day! I’ve already told my husband that when we have a vow renewal in the future I’ll be ordering some things from Extra Special Touch! For this unicorn wedding styled shoot she made some beautiful menu holder napkins, as well as providing a garter for our model.
If you’ve read any of the wedding advice that we publish then you may have read that not everything goes to plan when it comes to a wedding, and this styled shoot was no different. Two days before the shoot, our floral designer dropped out but thankfully All Bunched Up stepped in and provided flowers for our tablescape as well as a gorgeous pastel bouquet.
The beautiful bouquet ribbon was provided by Pom Pom Blossom and I think it really made a difference to the bouquet, it made it even more whimsical and it’s not a detail that everybody would remember but it was certainly noticeable. They also provided the silk table runner which makes the whole tablescape look more elegant.
I’ve been a fan of House Of Elliot shoes for a while now, They’re the perfect mix of classic and whimsical and I felt that they’d be the perfect fit for this shoot (you may also remember them from this recent styled wedding and boudoir shoot).
When it came to attire I knew that I wanted the shoot to feature a white dress but that had something different about it. I’ve heard wonderful things about Legend Bridal Designs but I was still overwhelmed when they said they’d design a dress especially for this unicorn themed shoot! A stunning dress with sparkles on the back and multi-coloured pastel train – it was just dreamy and our model Kelsey looked beautiful in it!
Hair accessories were made by Honey V Tiaras to match the colours of the dress and then jewellery was chosen by Starbox Wedding to compliment the whole look. There were two bridal looks to show a variety of accessories and styles, but we can’t choose which was our favourite?! Rachael Doig Makeup Artist did a great job of creating two looks with a quick change of hairstyle and additional makeup. If you have a preference then leave us a comment to let us know – pink earrings with a headband or blue earrings with a hair vine and face gems?
