Valentines Sweetheart Styled Shoot
A sweet craving for mixed patterns and textures drove the styling of this gorgeous Valentine’s Tea Party. When Amanda MacPhee Studios reached out for assistance with a romantic Valentine-inspired shoot at the Great Marsh Estate in Bealton, VA, Alexandra Hill from Pastiche Event Productions VA knew the moment had come to try and create a lovely Victorian tea party. The risk of over mix-and-matching was overcome by choosing coordinating colors and the inclusion of solids as well as patterns. After several tests, the result was a delicate, soft pink and gold arrangement of fine china set on a lovely mocha wood table with brushed gold flatware from Boheme’s Jubilee. MJ Wong, owner of Boheme’s, also provided the petite floral arrangements with trailing greenery set into the quintessential tea pots to bring the look together.
Invitations and a vow book created from handmade paper by Lauren R Clements at Line Ave Calligraphy included beautiful watercolor illustrations of the Great Marsh’s Manor and soft pink ribbons.
Of course, what tea party is complete without a plate of beautiful macarons, generously provided by Sugar & Spice Bakery’s Alicia Fletcher. In addition to adding macarons and a few other demure baked goodies to the dessert table, the show-stopping wedding cake, designed by Tiffany Rosales at Commonwealth Cake Company, was at the center of awe in the final presentation. A wide, thin ribbon of pink fondant cascaded down three layers of wedding cake amidst dots of fine gold leaf and set with large pink flowers. Mixed textured plates and cake stands bring back the original intent of mixing textures and patterns, while bite-size treats and succulent strawberries keep onlookers craving more of this delightful tea time.
This timeless tea party couldn’t have come together without the pure sweetheart love of models, Josh and Heidi. In a simple tea-length wedding dress, white kitten heels, and a handmade fleece and pink satin wrap, Heidi was the picture of innocence and romance with her sweet pink bouquet from Boheme’s Jubilee. Josh’s ensemble was fulfilled in theme with matching rose printed tie and pocket square by Tiebreaker Bowties.
The model couple actually met on Match.com. The bride had just moved to Florida after graduating college in 2012 and was looking to attend Stir Events which were hosted by Match.com. To attend she needed to be a Match.com subscriber. She joined for one month. Not a single event was hosted in her area that month, but she did get daily “matches” delivered and Josh, the model groom, was one of them! They went on their first date in July 2012 and the rest is history.
In keeping with their unconventional romance, she actually proposed to him! He remarked once that he thought it would be fun to be proposed to, which she took seriously. She had a simple ring ordered with an engraved inner band that said “Vous et nul autre” – French for “You and no other”. After a great day in downtown Baltimore she dropped down on one knee in the inner harbor by the Constellation and asked him to marry her! A couple on a bench nearby started cheering, and the guy said, “Dude! Say yes!” He surprised her on Thanksgiving Day a few weeks later with her dream engagement ring.
Amanda MacPhee, the photographer, loves all things fun and whimsical, so when she was planning out this styled shoot, she immediately fell in love with the idea of a small tea party for two. Elements of pink and white popping off the background, giving the table a light, romantic and feminine feel. It just got better when the estate was covered in snow! They went with delicate blooms, simple teapots and fun patterns. Add in the super in love couple from above and talented creatives, and you get this adorable little Valentines shoot.
