Vibrant Summer West Texas Nuptials – Mikaela & Taylor

Taylor and Mikaela first met while attending Abilene Christian University. They were biology lab partners and didn’t get along too well, in the beginning, at least! They both wanted to be alone but they were forced into being each other’s lab partner. Over the course of the semester they became friends. Taylor was leading a mission trip to Haiti and invited Mikaela to join the group. They remained friends after the trip and started to hang out the following summer. Somewhere along the way he asked her to be his girlfriend and the rest is history! Mikaela says “the proposal was amazing. Both of our families were in town for Sing Song (a big tradition at the college we went to). I was running from show to show, but Taylor had planned a special dinner for us and our families. I almost cancelled but he made me go. I had face paint on and my hair was in a messy bun so he took me to my house and let me get cleaned up. I knew something was up because he kept going outside. We are on our way to dinner and my dad called him because our reservation had gotten messed up. Taylor acted like he was so upset and needed to go for a walk to “cool down” which is super out of character for him because he is the most laid back person. As we are walking, we come up to this fountain and there is a sign with our quote on it. I turn around to look at him and he is on one knee! He asked me to be his wife and I just remember shaking so badly. I couldn’t even get out the word “yes” but my tears and smile gave away my answer. Afterwards, we celebrated with our families and close friends!”

They both knew they wanted a low-key, low-stress wedding day. The most important detail was thay they were surrounded by their friends and family. They didn’t have a specific theme in mind. They just wanted it to be simple yet pretty. “I am naturally drawn to blues so we had a lot of blue with some corals mixed in. We had a religious wedding but did not include anything specific. It was very important to Taylor and me that our families were very involved in the ceremony, so we put together a five year box. Family members from both sides wrote us letters that we will open on our 5th anniversary. We sealed the box shut in place of a unity candle!”

Most of their day was DIY. The photo backdrop and centerpieces were DIY. “Taylor and I are very fortunate because so many of our friends and family pitched in to help make our dream day a reality! My dad made our head tables, my step-dad made our bench that doubled as our guest book as well as some metal decor and my MOH decorated the head tables. We did all the wedding set up the day of and it wouldn’t have been possible without all the help we received!”

“My dad and step-dad really helped personalize the day. They each made pieces that are incredibly special to Taylor and me. My dad made the head tables at our wedding and we still have our sweetheart table in our home today. This is such a special reminder of our day every time we sit down to eat. My step-dad made a bench that doubled as a guest book. We have the bench on our front porch and we are able to spend a lot of time together outside on this piece! Overall, I felt our theme did a great job of reflecting both of us. We are both pretty simple people and were able to enjoy the natural beauty of our venue while spending time with the people we love the most.”

Mikaela chose an all lace gown with a gorgeous open back and wore cork heeled shoes. She had a simple up-do and wanted a natural look with her make-up. “I didn’t have any expectations for how I looked on my wedding day. I knew that I didn’t want to overdo it as I typically do not wear a lot of product. I wanted to feel like myself! I found my dress in the first store I went to. I was actually getting really frustrated because I didn’t like any of the dresses that I picked. My mom gave me a dress to try and I hated it… Until I put it on and fell in LOVE with it. She has always known me better than myself. My dress was all lace and hugged my figure. The back was open which was my favorite part! As for hair and makeup, I opted to keep it simple. My hair and makeup team was amazing and made me feel like such a princess. I did a simple updo and natural makeup so I still looked and felt like myself!Taylor wore a blue suit with an ivory shirt and a simple boutonniere. “
Taylor loves to keep things fun with his socks, so he was sure to include all of his groomesmen in the fun by getting them all a silly pair of socks!

“We chose not to do a first look so the most anticipated moment was seeing him. As I began to walk down the aisle, my dad was telling me jokes so I didn’t start crying immediately. Seeing him at the end waiting for me is the most special thing that I have ever experienced. It was like my person was patiently waiting for me to get there. I had to mindfully keep myself from sprinting to him. My dad and step-dad gave me away to him and I will always remember the way that he looked at me with such a deep love.”
