Vineyard wedding in the Hudson Valley – Laura & Julio

Laura and Julio met on Match and both couldn’t believe their luck at finding someone else in the big city who loved nature and animals as much as both of them do. They also both believe in the importance of family. This is why it was so special that Julio decided to propose on a family vacation to Iceland. In Reykjavik on New Year’s Eve, people set off fireworks from about 11:30 to 3 in the morning. It was against that backdrop that Julio proposed.

This happy couple were married at the incomparable Red Maple Vineyards on a gorgeous day in July. These two are genuine, they are joyful and they are absolutely smitten with each other. The sunshine, wildflowers, and gentle breeze perfectly accented the love these two share. A perfect venue, a perfect day, and a perfect couple, what more can you ask for?

They live in the city but love to be outside in nature. So they wanted to choose a wedding venue which was away from the city, but close enough that all of their friends and family from NYC could make the trip. They wanted their wedding to feel elegant yet natural so that’s how they chose the colour palette and décor.

Due to the setting and set-up of the venue, Red Maple Vineyard, they didn’t feel like they had much decorating to do. The hill, gardens, and fields of Red Maple Vineyard were themselves part of the natural décor they were looking for. They DIYed the cut branch table number and menu holders and a few smaller décor accessories. They also used some left-over table number holders to place some pictures of Julio and Laura throughout the reception site.

When it came to florals, they wanted them to look like they could’ve grown in a garden in New York in July. The flowers that lined the aisle, covered the arch, were centerpieces at the table, as well as the bouquets and boutonnieres all followed the same colour and floral scheme, with slight variations in the size of the flowers. Laura says that “the flowers went a long way towards conveying the natural theme of our wedding”.

“I’ve loved BHLDN wedding dresses for years, before I was even engaged! My normal day to day looks are pretty casual and athletic but I have a secret girly girl inside. I knew I wanted a dress that was fitted at the top then poofed out (because when else do you get to wear a dress that poofs)? I loved the dress and almost didn’t change into my other BHLDN dress at the end of the reception, but I’m glad a chance I got to let loose in that dress too. Julio chose his wedding day look because the navy blue complimented the varied colors of the bridesmaids dresses so well. We ended up finding some great Calvin Klein suits that worked for all of the groomsmen, as well as Julio. The color of the guys’ ties was originally the color of all of the bridesmaid dresses. Through the help of a great stylist at Weddington Way we decided that having a variety of complimentary colors for the bridesmaids would compliment their skin tones. In the end that decision worked out really well with our natural, more organic theme.”
